A major Queensland government department is delivering a significant multi-year modernisation program to uplift one of its core statewide operational systems. This program includes cloud migration, redevelopment of a modern web-based user interface, and the introduction of new DevOps, Agile and automated testing practices. A large reporting uplift, including the delivery of a new Data Lake and Power BI capability, is also in scope. The project is underway now and will continue through to early 2027, with an external implementation partner engaged.

The Role As a Senior Business Analyst, you will play a key role in ensuring the successful delivery of the agreed project scope. You will engage with internal technical teams, business stakeholders, Subject Matter Experts and the external implementation partner to analyse, document and validate requirements across the entire project lifecycle. You will report directly to the Project Manager.

Key Requirements
  • Minimum 7 years' experience as a Business Analyst
  • Experience working in large, complex environments (government experience highly regarded)
  • Proven success working in fast-paced, iterative project delivery environments
  • Strong analytical, conceptual and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to engage confidently up to executive level
  • Experience on system replacement or modernisation programs
  • Experience working with software vendors and mixed delivery teams
  • Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively
  • Experience handling sensitive information in line with procedural and legislative requirements
  • Availability to work in the office 4 days per week (1 day WFH)
Technical and Delivery Experience Required:
  • Agile or iterative delivery, ideally using Azure DevOps
  • Current state analysis and development of business requirements and user stories
  • BPMN process modelling in Microsoft Visio
  • Validation of functional and technical specifications
  • Requirements traceability across design, development, testing and release
  • Proven ability to build effective relationships with SMEs and technical teams
Key Responsibilities In this role, you will:
  • Build strong working relationships with project team members and stakeholders
  • Act as a bridge between business SMEs, internal developers and the implementation partner
  • Work in an agile-style delivery squad defining user stories and acceptance criteria
  • Facilitate workshops with clear objectives and outcomes
  • Produce high-quality documentation, process models and other artefacts
  • Present solution outcomes to senior stakeholders
  • Evaluate and communicate impacts of scope changes
  • Support the Project Manager with risk and issue identification and mitigation
  • Support all testing phases, including planning, execution and resolution of defects
  • Provide input and support to change management and training activities
  • Assist the business helpdesk leading up to and following system go-live
  • Undertake other project-related activities as required
