Are you a seasoned legal professional with a passion for superannuation, financial services, and regulatory compliance? This entity which is a leader within the superannuation industry, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Legal Counsel to join their dynamic team.
About the Role:
As a Senior Legal Counsel, you will play a pivotal role in providing expert legal advice on a diverse range of matters. Your focus will be on superannuation, financial services, group life insurance, regulatory compliance, and member benefit claims, with the opportunity to shape the legal landscape of this organization. Primary duties include:
- Legal Advisory: Offer comprehensive legal advice on superannuation and financial services matters, including financial advice, new products, initiatives, and marketing campaigns.
- Group Life Insurance: Provide counsel on group life insurance, including product design, policy drafting, and interpretation.
- Member Benefits: Address member benefit queries and claims, as well as manage escalated member complaints, including those with AFCA and tribunals.
- Regulatory Management: Assist with managing regulator enquiries and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
- Policy Development: Support the review and development of policies and procedures, ensuring legal risks are mitigated.
- Research and Training: Conduct in-depth research on complex legal matters and legislation, and develop training for Trustee’s staff on relevant legal issues.
- Precedent Development: Create and maintain precedent documents to streamline legal processes.
- External Counsel Management: Oversee matters briefed to external lawyers and present external legal advice to the business with a commercial perspective.
- Minimum of 8 years’ post qualification experience (PQE).
- Must be admitted to practice in Australia
- Background in superannuation, financial services and group life insurance.
- Experience in advising superannuation funds
- Superior organizational skills and ability to prioritize and concurrently manage a range of matters.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Excellent drafting, negotiating and written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work co-operatively in a dynamic team.
- Ability to work autonomously and proactively and to set own work plan in order to meet deadlines.
- Ability to resolve internal escalations.
- Ability to provide commercially focused legal support.
- Excellent legal research skills.
