About the Opportunity:
We are partnering with this organisation to appoint a Senior Legal Counsel to support the legal function across a broad range of commercial and regulatory matters. This is a senior role offering the opportunity to work closely with executive stakeholders, contribute to strategic decision-making and play a key role in shaping legal frameworks and processes within the business.
The Role:
You will provide commercially focused legal advice across a wide range of areas, including commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, corporate governance and risk management, within a fast-paced and dynamic environment. The role will also involve managing and mentoring a small team of two lawyers, while working closely with cross-functional teams to embed legal considerations into business operations and support key strategic initiatives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Advising senior stakeholders on commercial, corporate and regulatory matters
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a range of high-value commercial agreements
- Supporting compliance with applicable regulatory frameworks, including privacy and consumer obligations
- Contributing to corporate governance processes and board reporting
- Partnering with business units to proactively manage legal risk
- Managing and developing a team of two lawyers
- Managing external counsel and supporting dispute or regulatory matters where required
- Driving improvements in legal processes, systems and ways of working
You are a commercially minded lawyer with strong in-house and private practice experience and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
Key requirements include:
- Approximately 8+ years’ PQE, ideally with a mix of private practice and in-house experience
- Strong experience in commercial contracts, regulatory advisory and risk management
- Working within a lean legal set up currently or previously would be ideal
- Experience within telecommunications, technology, financial services or other regulated industries is essential
- Demonstrated leadership or mentoring experience
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at a senior level
- A pragmatic, solutions-focused approach with strong commercial judgement
