About the Company
A design-led engineering business is seeking an experienced Systems Safety Engineer to own and mature system safety across a portfolio of complex, multi‑disciplinary projects. With integrated electro‑mechanical, controls and electrical systems and a strong focus on end user experience, the organisation is moving from ad‑hoc safety practices to a robust, standards‑driven framework backed by committed engineering leadership.

The Role
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will act as the systems safety subject matter expert and signatory for the business, setting the standard for how safety is designed, governed and assured across all projects. You will lead the development and implementation of system safety workflows, manage the relationship and handover from an expert safety supplier, and provide day‑to‑day guidance to project teams to ensure hazards are identified early

Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience leading system safety programs and producing system safety management plans, hazard logs, risk registers and V&V strategies aligned to MIL‑STD‑882 or equivalent standards.
  • Hands‑on capability with formal safety assessment methods including hazard analysis, FMEA and risk assessment techniques, and familiarity with machinery and functional safety standards such as ISO 13849, IEC 62061, IEC 61508, IEC 60204 and ISO 12100 (with any exposure to ASTM F2291 viewed favorably).
  • A pragmatic, change‑ready mindset — patient, resilient and determined — with the ability to bring multidisciplinary and creative teams on the journey as workflows mature and resistance is managed.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder skills, enabling you to translate complex safety concepts for engineers, designers, leaders and customers, always keeping the end user front of mind.
Why Apply?
You’ll step into a Principal‑level role with genuine ownership of the systems safety agenda, shaping how cutting‑edge systems are conceived, designed and assured. The position offers the chance to build and embed best‑practice safety workflows and training from the ground up in a supportive, project‑driven organisation tackling first‑of‑a‑kind engineering challenges.
