As part of this growth, they are seeking a Packaging Manager based in Southeast Melbourne. About the role As Packaging Manager, you will lead the development and implementation of innovative, sustainable, and commercially viable packaging solutions across the business. This hands-on, full-time leadership position is critical to supporting new product development, improving packaging performance, and ensuring all initiatives align with brand, operational, and environmental goals. You will leverage global packaging trends and cultivate partnerships with both local and international suppliers to deliver market-leading packaging. The role includes direct leadership of a Packaging Technologist and close collaboration with stakeholders across marketing, operations, sustainability, and external partners. You will be responsible for designing and specifying packaging and materials that are fit for purpose, leading major packaging redesigns and new format launches, overseeing packaging trials and development plans, driving sustainable packaging initiatives, managing packaging artwork and specification updates, and acting as the subject matter expert for packaging performance on production lines. In addition to your technical expertise, you will drive the strategic direction of packaging innovation, acting as a thought leader on packaging trends, sustainability, and consumer expectations. You will collaborate with senior leadership to integrate packaging innovation into broader business planning and product pipeline development, represent packaging in cross-functional and industry forums, and build scalable, cost-effective packaging roadmaps. Ideal Candidate 5–8 years’ experience in FMCG packaging, with at least 2–3 years in a Packaging Manager role and proven leadership of 1–2 direct reports. Strong technical knowledge of packaging design, printing technologies (including flexo), and sustainable materials. Demonstrated problem-solving skills, particularly in packaging optimisation, palletisation, and production efficiency. Proven ability to manage multiple projects, stakeholders, and competing priorities. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, able to engage with procurement, marketing, production, and external suppliers. Hands-on, proactive, and passionate about sustainability and innovation. Experience working with new packaging formats, industrial design, and machine selection is highly regarded.
